Two Maoists Neutralized

Cuttack: In an Exchange of Fire (EoF) two Left Wing Extremists (LWE)s including a   woman, were neutralized.

An EoF took place between security personnel and the Maoist in Malkangiri district on 13 December .

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Special Operation Group (SoG) personnel launched a combing operation in Gajalmamudi area of Swabhiman  Anchal, a remote part of the district, earlier in the day, DGP Abhay told Media.

he said that the Maoists resorted to sudden and unprovoked heavy firing from an advantageous position on this SOG team and lobbed grenades.

SOG team immediately took cover and asked Maoists to surrender.

In order to save themselves, SOG Team fired in self defence in a controlled manner.

Because of their superior fire power, superior training and superior motivation, SOG prevailed, the DGP said.

With the benefit of dense jungle and difficult terrain, Maoists escaped from the spot, he added.

The SOG personnel have recovered two guns and Maoist articles from the spot. They have intensified combing operations in the area to flush out LWEs from Swabhiman Anchal, the DGP said.

The deceased woman cadre, who was in uniform, appeared to be holding an important position, and the other, who has been identified as D Ramesh, was a CPI (Maoist) Area Commander, he said.

“The state government is committed to free the Swabhiman Anchal from Maoists, and we urge them to surrender,” the DGP said.

A woman Maoist was killed in a gunfight with security personnel in Kandhamal district on 11 December.
