Pradhan Welcomes Global Unis India Campuses

New Delhi: India is moving to a transformative phase for higher education, driven directly by Union Minister Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan’s push to integrate global academic standards into the domestic landscape. By personalizing the execution of the National Education Policy 2020, the initiative bridges the gap between domestic policy and global institutional trust, positioning India as a prominent destination for high-tier international learning.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister Education has championed this visionary drive, actively steering the regulatory and diplomatic channels required to attract globally reputed institutions. Under his leadership, the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission have moved from theoretical policy to concrete implementation, creating an ecosystem that respects institutional autonomy while ensuring global standards are maintained on Indian soil.

This drive has culminated in the issuance of Letters of Approval to three major institutions. The University of Bristol is set to establish its Mumbai Enterprise Campus, which will offer specialized programs in immersive arts, finance, data science, economics, business management, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Simultaneously, the University of York will open its first overseas campus, also in Mumbai, focusing on areas such as finance, computer science with artificial intelligence, cyber security, business, economics, creative industries, and management. By placing these two campuses in Mumbai, the initiative aligns with one of India’s most critical financial and commercial hotspots.

Further south, the University of New South Wales will establish its Bengaluru campus at Manyata Business Park, with a scheduled opening in August 2026. This campus will offer programs in business, computer science, and cyber security, while also serving as a hub for deeper research engagement in renewable energy, health, transport, and education. Choosing Bengaluru leverages the city’s reputation as a massive technology and innovation hub, often described as the Silicon Valley of the eastern world.

The momentum generated by this drive extends beyond these three institutions. With these recent approvals, a total of five Letters of Approval have been issued under the foreign university regulations, a list that also includes the University of Southampton, which began academic operations for the 2025–26 session, and the University of Liverpool. Furthermore, ten Letters of Intent have been issued to other top-tier institutions spanning the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Italy. This is complemented by institutions like Deakin University, the University of Wollongong, and Queen’s University Belfast, which have already initiated operations within GIFT City.

Ultimately, this comprehensive effort seeks to expand local access to high-quality international degrees, foster two-way academic mobility, elevate domestic research capabilities, and cultivate a future-ready, globally competitive educational landscape within India.
