Bhubaneswar: The State Government has decided to expand its ambitious Odisha e-Hospital Management Information System (OeHMIS) to another 223 healthcare institutions of the State in two phases.
Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Shalini Pandit initiated the proposal and after its approval by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, now it is clear that OeHMIS will be implemented across the State.
According to official sources, 112 health institutes will be covered in the first phase and later another 111 health institutes shall be covered. In the first phase almost all healthcare facilities in Khurda and Jharsuguda districts will be covered under the project.
As many as 21 Community Health Centres (CHCs), 28 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) and 63 Primary Healthcare Centres of the two districts will be connected under OeHMIS.
Similarly, 32 Sub-Divisional Hospitals (SDHs), 78 CHCs covered under Ama Hospital and one PHC covered under the Ama Hospital scheme will get the new internet based-system in the second phase, the sources said.
In total, 24 Urban Primary Health Centres, 47 PHCs, and 15 CHCs of Khurda district and 6 CHCs, four UPHCs, and 16 PHCs of Jharsuguda district will be covered in the first phase.
To implement the project, the Health Department has asked the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) to provide Fibre To The Home (FTTH) Connectivity at the health institutes. Accordingly, the OCAC has floated a tender for this purpose, they said.
It will provide an online platform for recording clinical parameters of patients & reporting of hospitals’ performances. It will create automated records of different processes from registration, prescription details, diagnostic reports, etc to facilitate monitoring & review of hospitals, health officials said.
For patients, it will serve as a digital repository of their health records which they can view and download anytime & anywhere by accessing the web portal or through mobile app, they said.
In order to streamline and strengthen quality public health service delivery to the people of the State, the Health and Family Welfare Department had launched the OeHMIS in 2018. Under this system, paperwork would be reduced and diagnostic reports, prescription details and doctor’s advice would be found at the click of a mouse.
The project was first piloted at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack and Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar. Later, it was implemented at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer and Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack, other medical colleges, 31 District Headquarters Hospitals.
