Bhubaneswar: Odisha has marked a significant milestone in its industrial journey with the foundation stone laying ceremony for a state of the art semiconductor unit. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, alongside Union Minister for Electronics, IT, and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the 3D Glass Solutions facility at Infovalley in Khordha district. This project represents a breakthrough in the state’s efforts to become a major player in the global information technology and electronics manufacturing landscape.
The facility is the first of its kind in India, focusing on advanced glass substrate packaging technology. Union Minister Vaishnaw noted that this specific technology is viewed as the future of the semiconductor industry, positioning Odisha at the forefront of national technological leadership. The components manufactured here are expected to be critical for emerging high growth sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, high performance computing, and defense electronics.
The project involves an investment of approximately 2,000 crore rupees and is designed to have a high production capacity. Once operational, the unit is expected to produce 70,000 glass panels, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 advanced 3DHI modules annually. Beyond its industrial output, the facility is projected to create employment opportunities for about 2,500 people, providing a significant boost to the local economy and professional landscape for engineers and students in the region.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the involvement of global giants like Intel, Lockheed Martin, and Applied Materials with 3D Glass Solutions underscores the growing international confidence in Odisha’s industrial ecosystem. He emphasized that Odisha has secured over 10,000 crore rupees in investments within the semiconductor sector alone, with companies like RIR Power Electronics and SiCSEM already establishing their presence in the state.
Chief Minister Shri Majhi outlined five core pillars that make Odisha an attractive destination for investors: abundant natural resources, world class infrastructure, a skilled youth workforce, robust connectivity, and responsive governance. He stated that Odisha is positioned to be the launchpad for the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision in Eastern India. The ceremony was attended by several high ranking officials, including State IT Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling and top executives from 3D Glass Solutions, signaling a unified commitment to transforming the state into a premier global semiconductor destination.
