Bhubaneswar : The Excise Department has intensified the enforcement activities against liquor mafia, illegal brown sugar traders and Ganja mafia keeping the ensuing election in view. Seizure of liquor, Ganja and brown sugar has substantially increased in the month of April 2024.
During the month of April-2024,so far as liquor cases concerned, 6619 cases have been detected with seizure of 2,91,641 Litres of ID Liquor, 254 Litres of Duplicate Foreign Liquor, 169 Litres of Non-Duty Paid Foreign Liquor, 2178 Litres of IMFL, 12137 Litres of Out Still Liquor, 1123 Litres of Beer, 2031 KGs of Bhang, 3724 Litres of Country Liquor and1,62,745 KGs of Mahua Flower withseizure of 464 numbers of vehicles. In this connection 5,232 liquor mafias have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The persistent and intense drive against illegal Ganja, brown-sugar and Cough Syrup mafia have also yielded very good results. In this connection 141 numbers of cases have been detected and167 Ganja mafia, brown-sugar mafia have been remanded to jail. Huge seizure of 3400 KGs of Ganja, 85 Litres of Cough Syrup and 2,852 Grams of Heroin has been made.The total value of seized liquor, Ganja and brown-sugar etcamounts to Rs.32.3 Crores.
Some of the important detections are seizure of 390 KGs of Ganja and one Mahindra Pick-Up Van by Special Squad, Berhampur, 108 KGs of Ganja with one Mahindra Bolero by the Malkangiri staff and 50 KGs of Ganja with one Mahindra Car andRs. 11,000/- in cash seized by Angul Excise District. A record quantity of 162745KGs of Mahua Flower have been seized by different districts, which has been instrumental in curbing illicit distillation of liquor to a great extent.
