Cyclone Hamoon Weakens

Bhubaneswar: The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Hamoon” is likely to weaken into a Cyclonic Storm.

Pronounced as Hamoon over Northeast Bay of Bengal moved east-northeastwards with a speed of 23 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 2030 hours IST of today.

The Cyclonic Storm has been named ‘Hamoon’ by Iran. The word ‘Hamoon’ is a Persian word that refers to inland desert lakes or marshlands. They are formed as natural seasonal reservoirs in areas adjoining the Helmand basin.

It is likely to further weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during next 09 hours. It is likely to move northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast to the south of Chittagong by early hours of 25 October as a Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 80 to 90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.

Landfall process is likely to commence from mid-night of today, the 24 October 2023.
