Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Shri Akhilesvar Singh has been given charge as the Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIGP) for the South Western Range in Odisha, stepping into a role critical to managing the region’s current security and development dynamics.
A 2009 batch officer of the Odisha cadre, Shri Akhilesvar Singh brings a wealth of specialized field experience to the assignment, having served as the DIG of the State Intelligence Wing and as the Superintendent of Police in key districts like Jagatsinghpur and Sambalpur.
While executing his new responsibilities in the South Western Range, he will simultaneously continue to serve as the DIGP of the State Intelligence Wing.
Widely recognized as an exceptional intelligence strategist and field commander, Shri Singh has played a pivotal role as the State Intelligence Wing DIG. His ability to collect actionable information has been a primary asset in executing highly successful anti-Maoist operations across the state.
These operations have led to the significant elimination of extremist networks, directly advancing the internal security objectives established by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.
His reassignment to the South Western Range is viewed by observers as a strategic placement given the area’s current climate. The region has experienced ongoing tension stemming from anti-industry and anti-mining agitations, requiring an ace administrator capable of managing complex law-and-order situations firmly.
DIGP Shri Singh has a proven track record of defusing localized public resistance, drawing from his past tenures in Sambalpur and Jagatsinghpur where he handled similar industrial and community flashpoints. This return to the South Western Range, where he has also previously served as DIG, positions him to leverage his localized expertise to stabilize the region.
As part of the same administrative movement, Shri Kanwar Vishal Singh, a 2010 batch IPS officer who is serving as the South Western Range DIG, has been transferred and posted as the DIG of the Special Task Force.
