Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police sportspersons were felicitated by Director General of Police Shri Vinaytosh Mishra at the DGP Camp Office in Bhubaneswar on National Sports Day, observed on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The felicitation honored police athletes for their outstanding performances in kayaking and canoeing at the national level.
DGP Mishra commended the athletes for their dedication, hard work, and excellence, encouraging them to bring further acclaim to Odisha Police in future national and international competitions.
The athletes secured a total of eight medals including two gold, five silver, and one bronze at the ASMITA National Water Sports Championship 2026, held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from August 8 to August 9.
Rasmita Sahu, WC 1366, secured three medals: a gold in Canoeing Single 1000m, along with silver medals in the 500m and 200m events. Sachima Kerketta, WC 349, also won three medals, taking gold in Canoeing-4 200m and silver in both the 500m and 1000m events. Phulamani Khakha, WC 322, added to the tally with a silver in Kayaking-2 200m and a bronze in Single 1000m.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Shri Sanjay Kumar attended the ceremony to encourage the athletes. Odisha Police Sports Officer Shri Nilamadhab Swain coordinated the event.
