Bhubaneswar: Clean-tech firm MACLEC presented its indigenous Surface Hydro Kinetic Turbine technology during a high-level review meeting chaired by Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Empowerment Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Kharavel Bhavan. The meeting focused on deploying innovative renewable energy solutions to support the green power transition of the state.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy, Electronics and Information Technology Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, who is spearheading green energy transition in State of Odisha graced the occasion.
MACLEC highlighted the operational advantages of implementing Surface Hydro Kinetic Turbines within the energy infrastructure of Odisha. Unlike traditional hydroelectric systems, this technology generates continuous electricity directly from flowing canal water using existing land resources.
The mechanism requires no new land acquisition, dams, or reservoirs, avoiding displacement while optimizing existing canal networks. Beyond clean power generation, the initiative offers local employment opportunities, regional infrastructure development, and a continuous source of baseload power to improve overall electrical grid stability.
As part of the initiative, MACLEC submitted a detailed proposal to establish a 10 MW clean power generation project set along canal banks. To facilitate execution, the company requested key administrative and infrastructural backing from the Energy Department. This includes smooth grid synchronization, expansion approvals, and necessary regulatory clearances.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singh Deo acknowledged the project as a compelling and viable concept. The initiative aligns with state goals to diversify energy resources and expand the clean energy framework of Odisha.
