Malkangiri: In a major boost to regional air connectivity in southern Odisha, IndiaOne Air has conducted flight trials and operational landings at Malkangiri Airport. The development marks a transformative milestone for the district, which has historically faced remote geographical access and limited transport options.
The flights are operated using 9-seater Cessna Grand Caravan C208B aircraft, a model specifically tailored for regional operations connecting smaller airstrips and underserved towns. State officials, aviation experts, and technical inspection teams from IndiaOne Air evaluated the airport facilities, runway readiness, and safety protocols prior to launching commercial trials.
Operational Infrastructure: Malkangiri Airport features a 1,620-meter runway designed to handle small and medium regional aircraft. Built at an estimated cost of around 70 crore rupees, the facility includes comprehensive security setups and dedicated perimeter fencing to ensure safe flight operations.
Enhanced Regional Connectivity: The introduction of flights operated by IndiaOne Air connects Malkangiri to major urban and industrial centers across Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, as well as nearby destinations like Visakhapatnam. This reduces travel times that previously required long journeys through difficult terrain.
Economic and Public Benefits: The air connection is expected to significantly improve local tourism, emergency medical evacuations, governance, and business trade in the region. It provides students, medical patients, and officials with rapid transit to state capitals and metropolitan areas.
Regular scheduled commercial passenger operations will follow once final clearances and route approvals are completed. Passengers will be able to book seats through IndiaOne Air’s official booking platform as additional schedules are formally announced.
