Bhubaneswar: IMD Bhubaneswar Head Dr.Manorama Mohanty said that Odisha recorded light to moderate rainfall at most places over the past 24 hours, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall occurring at isolated locations. Six places recorded extremely heavy rainfall, thirty-six places saw heavy rainfall, and Athagarh in Cuttack district registered the highest rainfall in the state at 226 mm. Total seasonal rainfall from June 1 to July 22 reached 526.6 mm.
Synoptic conditions show that the active monsoon trough extends towards the northwest Bay of Bengal up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. An east-west trough zone also runs between 5.8 km and 7.6 km height, tilting southwards.
For the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is forecast across most of Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur. Heavy rainfall is also predicted for Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
On July 23, light to moderate rain will continue across most places in northern Odisha and many places in southern Odisha. Heavy rain is expected in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar. Lightning along with gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 km/h is likely in coastal and northern districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
Similar weather conditions will persist from July 24 to July 28 across many parts of the state, with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea off the Odisha coast during the next 24 hours. Sea conditions will remain rough with squally weather, accompanied by wind speeds of 35 to 45 km/h gusting up to 55 km/h.
