New Delhi: In a strategic meeting held at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in New Delhi, Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Shri Santosh Sarangi met with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, Mr. Simon Stiell, to discuss India’s ongoing clean energy transition and explore broader avenues for international climate collaboration.
The meeting highlighted the active momentum led by Shri Santosh Sarangi in steering administrative actions to realize the clean energy vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Under this vision, India is expanding its renewable footprint through transformative national initiatives aimed at boosting energy self-reliance, cutting carbon emissions, and fostering green industrial growth.
During the discussions, Shri Sarangi outlined key flagship programs that are driving this transition on the ground. These include the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for widespread household solarization, the PM-KUSUM scheme empowering the agricultural sector through solar power, and the ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission. He also emphasized the role of the Production Linked Incentive scheme in building robust domestic manufacturing capacity for high-efficiency solar components and energy storage systems.
Highlighting the need for international alignment, Shri Sarangi pointed to the vital support expected from the UNFCCC process in mobilizing international climate finance and strengthening market-based cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of robust global partnerships to accelerate sustainable development and achieve long-term climate resilience.
