Odisha’s Green Energy Leap

Bhubaneswar: Over the last two years, Odisha has significantly accelerated its transition towards clean and sustainable energy, positioning itself as a leader in India’s green energy movement. Through a robust expansion of rooftop solar installations, solar-powered irrigation systems, and various large-scale renewable energy projects, the state is actively promoting long-term energy security. This aggressive shift is successfully reducing Odisha’s dependence on conventional fossil-fuel power sources, paving the way for a much greener and eco-friendly future for its citizens.

At the helm of this massive transformation is Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Energy and Electronics & Information Technology (E&IT), Government of Odisha. Driven by a vision of complete sustainability, Shri Vishal Kumar Dev is working on overdrive to design and execute a comprehensive clean energy roadmap. His leadership recently culminated in strategic collaborations, including an agreement to accelerate renewable adoption, attract global investments, and align the state’s growth with both national and state-level future visions.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, has highly appreciated the proactive and stellar efforts of the Government of Odisha. The state recently received major national recognition at the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Awards, securing top rankings for its outstanding performance during national solar campaigns, achieving maximum consumer applications, and fast-tracking solar installations.

Working in tandem to achieve these national benchmarks, Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, ACS Energy, and Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of MNRE, are trying incredibly hard to support and elevate the State of Odisha. Their joint focus on optimizing clean energy infrastructure, pushing for green hydrogen potentials, and expanding decentralized solar power ensures that Odisha remains at the absolute forefront of India’s green transition.

To see more about how these initiatives are taking shape on the ground, you can watch this report on the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Odisha. This video covers the direct impact of the rooftop solar movement that the state and federal authorities are pushing to empower local communities.
