India, Cambodia Join Hands

New Delhi: India and Cambodia have laid the groundwork for a robust partnership in sustainable development following a high-level bilateral meeting in New Delhi on April 29, 2026.

Led by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, and Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, H.E. Keo Rottanak, the talks signaled a new chapter in South-South cooperation, focusing on how India’s proven green energy frameworks can be adapted to power Cambodia’s future. Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) presented details.

The discussions primarily centered on integrating clean energy into the agricultural sector to bolster food and energy security. The Cambodian delegation specifically looked toward India’s successful models to modernize their own irrigation and rural power infrastructure.

Key Indian Initiatives Highlighted: PM-KUSUM Scheme: A transformative program that provides farmers with solar-powered irrigation pumps, reducing reliance on the traditional grid and diesel.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana: A massive rooftop solar initiative designed to provide free electricity to households while feeding surplus power back into the national grid.

Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), detailed the technical and policy frameworks that have accelerated India’s green transition. This knowledge transfer is intended to help Cambodia bypass traditional developmental hurdles by adopting decentralized power solutions.

Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi emphasized that India is prepared to offer technical support, capacity building for officials and technicians, and knowledge sharing regarding the blueprints of India’s most successful renewable energy policies.

Both nations expressed a shared vision for an eco-friendly energy ecosystem. This engagement is expected to catalyze future joint projects in solar energy and decentralized power, ultimately helping Cambodia transition toward more reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective agricultural practices.
