Bhubaneswar: With the reports of wide-spread damage in many places across the State due to nor’wester, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu on Thursday sought damage reports from the Collectors.
There are incidents of damage to power and falling of trees due to thunderstorms/lightning in different districts today afternoon. So, the Special Relief Commissioner Shri Sahu has immediately directed districts to coordinate with discoms for immediate power restoration.
The local fire services may be utilised for removal of uprooted trees/broken tree trunks, SRC Shri Sahu said.
The Collectors have been directed to submit reports on damages to houses and any casualties/injury, if any, due to thunderstorm/lighting.
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-50 kmph occurred in some parts of districts of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Koraput, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Balasore, Puri, Keonjhar, Khurda, Ganjam and Malkangiri on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted similar weather conditions for another four days and issued yellow warning for several districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal on Friday, it said.
Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri on May 27.
The Met Department has issues yellow warning for the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore for May 28.
Some places of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts would experience similar weather on May 29.
On the other hand, heatwave conditions continued in many places of Odisha in the daytime. At least 14 places have recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or above Thursday. Of which, five places—Talcher, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Jharsuguda and Sundergarh experienced a temperature of above 42 degrees Celsius.
There will be no large change in maximum temperature at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 5 days. It is likely to be 42 degrees Celsius or more at one or two places during the next 24 hours over districts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
