Covid Cases On Rise

Bhubaneswar: After a gap of more than five months, Covid-19 cases again started surging in Odisha. The State has reported 258 fresh cases and a death on Friday.

According to a Health Department Bulletin, 258 persons above 18 years have been found infected with the virus while 173 persons have been recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours. The total number of active cases now stood at 1186.  

As many as 6279 samples were tested in the State, against which 258 found positive. The test positivity rate stood at 4,1%.

The Health Department has confirmed the death of a 65-year-old woman of Jharsuguda district after due verification and audit.

The woman was suffering from acute kidney infection, chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease and pulmonary edema.

This was reported to be the first Covid death in the State in the last five months. The last death was reported on November 6, 2022.

Director Public Health Niranjan Mishra said the Covid cases will continue to rise for some more days, after that, it will again come down.

“We have adequate oxygen beds, ICU beds and required medicine to meet any emergency, if it arises,” Dr.Mishra said.

Besides, District Administrations have been instructed to strengthen Covid-19 management activities, he added.
