New Delhi: India has reached a historic milestone in its clean energy journey as the PM Surya Ghar Yojana officially covers 50 lakh households, marking a major leap forward in realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of domestic energy self-reliance and environmental sustainability.
Grounded in the Prime Minister’s roadmap to power one crore homes with solar energy by March 31, 2027, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, under the administrative leadership of Secretary Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, is driving an unprecedented expansion of domestic rooftop solar infrastructure.
Highlighting the accomplishment, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi Secretary MNRE stated that achieving the 50 lakh milestone is both a proud and humble achievement for the nation. He noted that under the vision of Prime Minister Modi, the PM Surya Ghar programme has established itself as the largest and fastest-growing rooftop solarization initiative globally. To translate this vision into ground reality, Shri Sarangi has overseen a multi-pronged execution strategy that combines direct financial assistance, streamlined digital governance, and robust inter-state coordination.
Under Shri Sarangi’s guidance, the ministry has introduced direct benefit transfers for subsidies, low-interest collateral-free financing options through public sector banks, and direct monitoring mechanism portals that ensure swift processing for households across the country. This operational agility has enabled states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Kerala to achieve stellar performance, while rapidly accelerating the pace of adoption in states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
To ensure that the Prime Minister’s vision reaches every corner of India, Shri Sarangi has prioritized targeted interventions in states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh to boost their implementation capacity in the coming months. Parallelly, the ministry is strengthening domestic manufacturing of solar cells, modules, and components under the Production Linked Incentive scheme to build a fully self-reliant green supply chain. Through proactive governance, institutional collaboration, and focused execution, Shri Sarangi is steering the renewable energy sector toward accomplishing the goal of powering one crore households, solidifying India’s position as a global leader in clean energy transformation.
