Bhubaneswar: Rains ahead in Odisha as an upper air cyclonic circulation over the north of the state and Gangetic West Bengal brings light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms on March 8 and 9.
Rains will bring some respite from the intensifying heat, particularly in districts like Jharsuguda which recently saw highs near 40°C.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather update for Odisha, indicating a shift from the current rising temperatures to a brief period of atmospheric turbulence.
While regions like Jharsuguda have recently recorded highs of 39.6°C, making it the hottest location in the state, a temporary relief is expected through March 8 and 9.
While current conditions remain clear with a temperature of 22°C and 63% humidity, yellow and orange warnings have been issued for districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
Residents should prepare for gusty winds of 40-50 kmph during this brief respite before temperatures are expected to climb by 2-3°C later in the week.
In addition to the storm alerts, shallow to moderate fog is anticipated in coastal pockets such as Cuttack and Khurda during the early hours.
Despite the weekend rainfall, the long-term forecast suggests that daytime temperatures will begin a steady climb again after five days, increasing by another 2-3°C as the region transitions further into the summer season.
