Bhubaneswar: The State of Odisha on Thursday reported 3650 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) to above 5 percent again.
Out of the new cases, 2098 infected persons were detected from quarantine centres while 1552 were local contacts. As many as 69,480 samples were tested in the state during the last 24 hours and the Test Positivity Ratio (TPR) for the day stood at 5.2 per cent.
The State reported 44 deaths due to the contagious disease in the last 24 hours. Five deaths have been reported from Bhubaneswar (Khurda), Cuttack and Bargarh district each while four Covid patients died in each of Angul, Khurda (rural) & Puri districts, three each in Kendrapara, Ganjam & Sundergarh,
Similarly, Nayagarh & Sambalpur districts recorded two deaths each while one such case was reported in Bhadrak, Boudh, Dhenkanal and Malkangiri districts. Now, the Covid death toll mounted to 3761 in the State.
Meanwhile, the State Government has cancelled the global e-tender floated for procurement of Copvid-19 vaccines.
The Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) has come up with the cancellation order in the wake of free Covid-19 vaccine supply by the Union Government for all above 18 years with effect from June 21.
On May 14, the OSMCL floated the global tender. To attract the vaccine manufacturers from across the globe, the State Cabinet first relaxed the norms and later extended the last date for submission of bid documents of global tender. But, the tender has received only two bids.
