Bhubaneswar: With IMD’s prediction of a low pressure area over central Bay of Bengal, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Revenue & Disaster Management, Satyabrata Sahu has alerted the Collectors of four north-coastal districts.
The SRC Shri Sahu has asked the Collectors of Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj to take preparatory measures in view of depression over central Bay of Bengal.
IMD, Bhubaneswar has intimated that the well-marked low pressure area over westcentral & adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards concentrated into a depression today morning and lay centered at 5.30 AM today over Central Bay of Bengal, Shri Sahu said in his letter to the four Collectors.
The system has moved northeastwards with a speed of 20 kmph and lay centered over the same region near about 730 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 750 km south of Canning (West Bengal).
It is very likely to continue to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal by May 25 morning, he pointed out.
Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm by the 25th night. Continuing to move nearly northwards, it is very likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around May 26 midnight as a severe cyclonic storm.
Under its impact, there is a possibility of wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph accompanied with heavy to very heavy rain at most places of the five districts.
The SRC Shri Sahu urged the Collectors to remain on alert and take all preparatory measures to face any eventuality. The situation of the District may be informed to SRC Office from time to time, he directed.
