Bhubaneswar: Election to the post of Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker will be held on June 13. The Assembly Secretariat has issued a letter to all MLAs in this regard on Wednesday.
As per sources, the filing of nomination papers for the post of Speaker will be held on June 10.
Dasharathi Satapathy, Secretary of Assembly has written the letter to all Members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
“As per provisions contained in Article 178 of the Constitution of India read with Rule 6 (1) and Rule 6 (6) of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Governor has been pleased to fix the 13th June, 2022 (Monday) at 10.30 A.M. for election of Speaker,” read the letter.
For the purpose a meeting of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will be held on June 13, 2022 (Monday) at 10.30 A.M. in the Assembly Hall, Bhubaneswar, he said.
Satpathy requested all MLAs to attend the above meeting of the Odisha Legislative Assembly accordingly.
The notice of motion for election of Speaker addressed to the Secretary, Odisha Legislative Assembly may be given in conformity with the provisions of Rule 6 (2) and Rule 6 (3) of the aforesaid Rules.
Recently, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has revamped the Council of Ministers. All 20 ministers had resigned from their respective posts on Saturday. Along with them, Surya Narayan Patro had also resigned from the post of Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly due to health issues.
Former Minister and senior BJD leader Bikram Keshari Arukha is likely to file nomination for the Speaker post. Speaking to the media, the Bhanjanagar legislator had said if any responsibility is given to him, he would discharge it with integrity and sincerity.
