Bhubaneswar: The Opposition BJP and Governing BJD indulged in a war of words over crime statistics published recently in the report of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Addressing women workers of his party, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the rising crimes against women have put our heads down in shame.
There are scores of allegations against BJD leaders and Ministers, he said.
The State BJP Mahila Morcha will launch an agitation over rising crimes against women across the state, Shri Pradhan said this after inaugurating the extended executive meeting of the state Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mahila Morcha at party office here.
“From the NCRB data, it is clear that women are not at all safe. Police stations are not receiving complaints related to incidents of violence against women. In its 23 years of rule, the BJD government has not taken any development programmes for women, “alleged the BJP Mahila Morcha president.
The Morcha alleged that the women in the state are not getting their due respect even after 23 years of rule by the BJD.
Reacting to Shri Pradhan’s statement, BJD Spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said, “What the Union Minister said was to encourage his party workers in the State who have been in a dejected mood following their party’s debacle in panchayat elections, civic body elections, and by-polls.”
There is nothing wrong in encouraging party workers. But what is wrong is telling half-truths, he said.
According to the NCRB report, Uttar Pradesh tops the list in crimes against women which was followed by Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. There are BJP-ruled states on top of the list, the BJD leader said.
