Singh Resigns From Dy Speaker

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD Lawmaker Rajanikant Singh has resigned from the post of Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) this afternoon.

Shri Singh has submitted his resignation paper to Speaker Pramila Mallik in the office of the Speaker in the Assembly.

Shri Singh, a Member of the Odisha Assembly since 2004, has been serving as the Deputy Speaker of the House since 2019.  He represents the Angul Assembly constituency.  Prior to becoming the Deputy Speaker, Singh served as Mines Minister in Naveen Patnaik Cabinet from 2012 to 2014.

Speaking to media persons after resigning, the senior MLA said he resigned from the Constitutional post to work for the people in his constituency as he was unable to undertake political work as a Deputy Speaker of the House.

“Henceforth, I will work for the party and organisation. I want to strengthen the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in my region,” he added.

It is expected that the ruling party might give him a major responsibility ahead of the elections as Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is likely to contest from the Dhenkanal Lok Sabha segment in 2024.
