Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has embarked on a visit to Thimphu, Bhutan, to represent India at the South Asia Labor Mobility Conference. The two-day international conference, organized by the World Bank, is scheduled to take place on May 20th and 21st.
Shri Singh Deo, who also holds the portfolios of Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment and Energy, currently serves as the Chairman of the Task Force on Distressed Migration. In this capacity, his participation in the conference is significant as he is expected to articulate India’s perspectives and engage in discussions aimed at finding lasting solutions and shaping policies concerning migrant workers.
Officials have stated that Shri Singh Deo’s involvement in this international forum will be instrumental in addressing the multifaceted challenges associated with labor mobility in the South Asian region.
Accompanying the Deputy Chief Minister is Principal Secretary of the Labour and Employees State Insurance Department, Chitra Arumugam.
The South Asia Labor Mobility Conference is anticipated to witness the participation of approximately 100 individuals, including representatives from Bhutan, Middle Eastern nations, North Africa, Italy, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Jamaica, Bangladesh, alongside officials from the World Bank and various governments.
The diverse representation underscores the global importance of the issues concerning labor migration and the collaborative effort required to address them effectively.
