Sarangi Outlines 1800 GW RE Goal

Lucknow: State-level authorities and key stakeholders convened at the National Workshop on Subnational Climate Leadership in Accelerating India’s Clean Energy Transition on October 6–7, 2025, to strategize on deepening the nation’s renewable energy penetration.

In his inaugural address, Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, MNRE, lauded India’s accelerated progress, noting the nation achieved its 2030 non-fossil energy target five years early. Shri Sarangi articulated the country’s expanded goal of reaching 1800 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity by 2047.

He outlined critical areas of focus, including promoting domestic RE manufacturing, enabling green financing, and reinventing the operational role of State Nodal Agencies (SNAs).

Secretary MNRE Shri Sarangi emphasized that these concerted efforts would significantly contribute to job creation, particularly in semi-urban and rural regions.

The two-day workshop served as a vital platform for government agencies, clean energy developers, and grassroots organizations to strengthen the implementation of India’s renewable energy journey.

A major feature of the event was the launch of the Technology Guidebook for Distributed Renewable Energy in Regional Languages. Discussions focused on formulating effective policy solutions, sustainable finance models, capacity building for SNAs, and accelerating subnational action.

The overarching goal remains to enhance clean energy access, empower rural livelihoods, and fortify India’s position as a global climate leader.

The workshop was jointly organized by the Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of States (AREAS)-MNRE and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA).
