New Delhi: Shri Santosh Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), represented India in two key roundtable sessions during New York Climate Week underlining the country’s clean energy acceleration and supporting regulatory setup.
During the GE Vernova roundtable, titled Redefining Energy Access: From Connection to Capability, participants examined strategies to shift energy access from simple power grid links toward stable, economic, and sufficient power supply. Moderated by Dr. Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General and CEO of the World Energy Council, the panel discussed how reliable power underpins community livelihoods, essential public services, and commercial activity.
Speaking at the session, Shri Santosh Sarangi spotlighted India’s key solar initiatives, particularly PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar. He detailed how these programs drive the widespread solarisation of farming infrastructure and residential homes, turning consumers into clean energy generators and establishing decentralized energy security.
Shri Sarangi joined the Temasek Roundtable on Powering Progress: Unlocking Sustainable Data Centers and Clean Energy Innovation. Discussions centered on deploying firm renewable power, expanding transmission infrastructure, establishing financial frameworks, and building policy clarity to support energy-intensive technology sectors.
MNRE Secretary, Shri Sarangi outlined India’s achievements in scaling utility-scale renewables and presented the country as an attractive destination for global hyperscalers and data center investors looking for long-term clean energy access.
The Climate Week engagements offered a platform to showcase India’s renewable energy deployment model while reinforcing international cooperation on clean tech funding, policy development, and sustainable infrastructure scaling.
