Bhubaneswar: With incumbent DGP Sunil Bansal all set to retire from service tomorrow, the State Government appointed senior IPS Officer Arun Sarangi as In-Charge Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha.
“Shri Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS (RR-1990) at present Special DG of Police, Training and Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) is allowed to remain in additional charge of DG of Police, Odisha until regular DGP joins,” read a notification issued by Home Department today.
Shri Sarangi, a 1990-batch Odisha cadre IPS Officer, started his career as SDPO, Talcher. and S.P. in Rayagada, Berhampur, Jagatsinghpur, Bhubaneswar, Rourkela and CID, CB, Cuttack.
On promotion to DIGP, he was posted as DIGP, Northern Central Range, Talcher and DIGP (OPS), Bhubaneswar.
Further after promotion to IGP, he was posted as IGP, Law and Order, Odisha, Cuttack and later he was handling Intelligence as ADGP.
Presently he is serving as Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA).
Shri Sarangi during his Service Career has received many Commendations & Rewards. Notable among them is Governors’ Medal in 2004 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007.
According to sources, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is yet to send a list of senior and eligible IPS officers for the highest post in Odisha Police.
Soon the UPSC will hold meeting for such listing and after getting the recommendation from the UPSC, the State Government will appoint a new full-time DGP.
