Bhubaneswar: Smoothening the process of distribution of subsidised rice to welfare institutions, the State Government has decided to allot rice to the schools and hostels run by the SC, ST Development Department at their doorstep.
For this purpose, SC, ST Development Secretary, Roopa Roshan Sahoo has written a letter to all Collectors cum District Magistrates.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare (FS & CW) Department allots subsidised rice in favour of ST/SC boarders of hostels run by the Department under the Welfare Institution & Hostels Scheme.
As per the prevailing practice, allotted rice is lifted by the headmaster from the concerned nominal fair price shops. However, considering the practical difficulties being faced by the headmasters in transportation of subsidized rice and to make the process coherent & cost effective, it is decided to provide rice to the schools and hostels at doorstep, Shrimati Sahoo said.
The transport contractors engaged to supply rice under Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme of School & Mass Education department will be engaged for lifting and supplying subsidized rice meant for hostels run by ST & SC Development Department, she said.
Shrimati Sahoo said the transportation cost will be borne by the concerned headmaster from the scholarship amount sanctioned for mess management.
The Collectors have been requested to ensure delivery of allotted rice to the school point through the transport contractors already engaged to supply rice under the MDM scheme to ST/SC boarders of hostels under the Welfare Institution & Hostels Scheme.
