Bhubaneswar: IMD Bhubaneswar has issued Red Warning for five districts in Odisha including Cuttack. Extremely heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions are expected across multiple districts of Odisha as a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal continues to intensify.
Centered roughly 170 km east of Chandbali and 180 km east-southeast of Balasore, the atmospheric system is moving northwestward and is projected to intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. It is forecasted to cross the north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island.
The India Meteorological Department issued the top-tier warning for regions including Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Angul, and Dhenkanal, where torrential downpours could trigger localized flooding, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and traffic disruptions.
Orange and yellow warnings remain active for surrounding regions, where gusty surface winds are anticipated to reach speeds between 40 kmph and 60 kmph.
Hazardous sea conditions have prompted strict marine safety advisories along the coastline. Fishermen are urged not to venture into the ocean off the Odisha coast through July 29, as squally weather could generate wind gusts up to 75 kmph.
Meanwhile, urban locations including Bhubaneswar will experience overcast skies accompanied by spells of rain and thundershowers, with temperatures hovering between 25°C and 31°C.
