Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary Handlooms, Textiles & Handicraft, Arabinda Kumar Padhee has urged upon officials and staff to wear Odisha handwoven clothing at least one day in a week.
Dr.Padhee’s clarion call came on the eve of National Handloom Day, which is celebrated in a big way on 7 August.
Dr.Padhee, who is promoting handwoven clothing in a big way has urged all departmental staff and district officials to dress up Odisha handwoven fabrics on 7 August and thereafter in celebration of National Handloom Day.
The National Handloom Day, organized nationally on 7 August to honorthe handloom weavers and provide impetus to the Handloom Sector.
This Day is also celebrated to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement, which was launched on 7 August 1905.
In order to recognize the contributions of handloom weavers, Odisha is also celebrating National Handloom Day today in a grand manner.
Dr.Padhee, who has on of the largest following in Social Media has also urged the people post photographs wearing Odisha handwoven products on Social Media using Hashtag#MyProductMyPride and #MyHandloomMyPride to encourage the handloom weavers of the State.
Dr.Padhee, who is the Chief of Handloom Sector has announced special discount on Odisha handwoven products from 7-15 August available at various outlets and online platforms such as Boyanika, Utkalika, Sambalpuri Bastralaya, and Amlan.
He has also requested to disseminate this important information in widest manner, so that people will be aware about the State Intervention in promoting use of handwoven products by the Odishan handloom weavers in a large scale.
