When Ajay Kumar’s appointment as In Charge of Congress in Odisha was announced by All India Congress Committee (AICC), there was jubilation among the Congress leaders in Western Odisha.

They were happy that Dr.Kumar, one of the most successful SSP of Jameshedpur will be handling the affairs of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee in a time of crisis, when morale of the workers and leaders is at lowest ebb.

An IPS Officer of 1986 Batch, Dr.Kumar’s reputation as ‘Tough Cop’ still ringing bells among those, who were studying at Jameshedpur and now in Congress working in several positions.

Dr.Kumar during 1990’s was assigned the tough job of saving Jameshedpur from the hands of goons, turned out their savior in cleaning the city from the hands of goons and mafias, for which his reputation as ‘Tough Cop’ continues as such.

Dr.Kumar, a simple minded and straightforward person is an ace organizer and was In Charge of North Eastern States of Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland.

Congress Boss Rahul Gandhi has a likeness for his organizational capabilities and he was the only leader from Jharkhand to be appointed as Member AICC Steering Committee headed by AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

Born in Karnataka, did schooling in Hyderabad, holds a MBBS Degree  from prestigious Medical College, JIPMER, Puduchery.

Dr.Kumar was so popular in Jameshedpur that he was elected as Member of Lok Sabha as Jharkhand Vikash Morcha Nominee in 2011.

Later he joined Indian National Congress and was National Spokesperson of AICC.

Dr.Kumar was also President of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee and later he left Congress to join Aam Admi Party (AAP).

However Rahul Gandhi’s call, aparently forced him to leave AAP to rejoin Congress in 2020.

A very openhearted and sociable personality, Dr.Kumar’s appointment as In Charge of Congress in Odisha has raised lot of hopes among the cadre.

However he will have tough time in leading the party, thanks to the low morale of the rank and file of Congress.
