ORMAS Connects Urban Clients

Bhubaneswar: In a move to connect rural producers directly with urban consumers, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) has opened a special Diwali stall at the SIRD Campus, Unit-8, Bhubaneswar.

The initiative showcases a vibrant collection of traditional and eco-friendly handmade products created by artisans from across the state, underscoring ORMAS’s commitment to empowering rural entrepreneurship.

Dr. Monica Priyadarshini, Chief Executive Officer of ORMAS, inaugurated the stall, emphasizing its dual role. “This Diwali stall reflects the essence of our tradition and the creativity of our rural craftsmen.

It is not just a market, but a bridge between rural skills and urban appreciation,” Dr. Priyadarshini said. Known for her innovative approach to rural development, she highlighted the initiative’s importance in providing sustainable market access for artisans.

Dr. Priyadarshini also took time to interact with producer groups from various districts, encouraging them to maintain a focus on high-quality, innovative products that embody Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.

The stall, which will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM until October 21, offers a delightful and traditional shopping experience. Visitors can explore a diverse array of items, all skillfully made by rural artisans, including Earthen lamps, Terracotta idols, Ragi Ladu, Coconut oil, Handmade Brooms, traditional delicacies, handicrafts, and handloom items.

Adding to the festive spirit, unique gift hampers have quickly become popular with shoppers. These include a Chocolate Gift Hamper and a Pickle Gift Hamper, specially prepared by producer groups from the Ganjam district.

The participating producer groups, who hail from districts such as Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Boudh, and Sonepur, represent the depth of the state’s regional diversity and craftsmanship.

This special Diwali venture by ORMAS champions self-reliance and inclusive growth. By celebrating the festival of lights through the promotion of rural entrepreneurship, the society continues its mission to illuminate the path for a vibrant rural economy in Odisha.
