Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) commemorated its 75th Year of Foundation by organising a day-long event here today.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said his Government has always been keen to strengthen the OPSC. A new annexe building of the Commission is under construction at a cost of Rs 14 crore to meet its infrastructure needs.  Besides, the cadre restructuring of the OPSC is under active consideration of the government, he said.

The Chief Minister congratulated all OPSC families, the former Chairpersons, and Members of the Commission for their significant contribution to this magnificent institution.

The OPSC is a creation of the Constitution of India and is mandated to conduct recruitments for appointments to the services of the State. The journey of Odisha Public Service Commission in the last seventy-five years has been remarkable, he pointed out.  

Shri Patnaik said thousands of men and women selected by the Commission in different fields of public administration have made stellar contributions to the all-round development of the State.

In recent years, the Commission has enabled itself to conduct a huge number of recruitment drives faster. It has maintained a high level of transparency by leveraging technology and following best practices in the field of recruitment, the CM said.

He complimented the Commission and its staff for their efforts in clearing the backlogs in recruitments and adhering to the annual recruitment calendar.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that the Commission will continue to contribute in building a prosperous and strong Odisha.

Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena emphasised on leverage of technology in recruitment, review of cadre rules to make it more compliant with the changing processes of recruitment.

A panel discussion was organised on the topic – Public Service Commission: Gateway to Future Leadership and Challenges in 21st Century.

The valediction session was graced by Ganeshi Lal, Governor, Odisha. He launched the highly advanced e-CHAYAN portal of the Commission. The software has many advanced features like AI enabled photo verification to eliminate impersonation, digital mark extraction from certificates, API based certificate verification and customized application forms etc.

Vivekananda Pattanayak, former Chairman, OPSC, Asit Tripathy, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister and Chairman WODC and Surya Prasad Mishra, former Advocate General, Odisha participated as panellists while Brigadier Dr. Laxmi Charan Patnaik, former Chairman, OPSC acted as moderator.

The Governor felicitated officers and staff of the Commission for rendering meritorious service. He emphasised merit-based selection ultimately contributes to nation building. Ten officers and staff of the Commission were felicitated on the occasion for rendering meritorious service.

A special cover was also released by the Department of Posts to mark the occasion.

Among others, Satyajit Mohanty, Chairman, OPSC welcomed the guests. Sanat Kumar Mohanty, Sarita Supkar, Shyambhakta Mishra, Members of the Commission proposed the vote of thanks and coordinated different sessions along with Pramod Kumar Mishra, Secretary, OPSC.
