Bhubaneswar: In a significant stride toward its clean energy goals, the state of Odisha is rapidly solidifying its position as a key player in India’s renewable energy transition. Since June 2024, the state’s Single Window Committee (SWC) has cleared an impressive 33 renewable energy projects, attracting substantial investments and reinforcing the government’s commitment to a sustainable future.
Since June 2024, Odisha’s Single Window Committee (SWC), led by Principal Secretary Energy and E&IT Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, has cleared 33 renewable energy projects. These projects, with a total capacity of 1,350.30 MW, have attracted an investment of ₹9,544.03 crore.
June 2024: The SWC, under Shri Dev’s leadership, approved two wind energy projects with a combined capacity of 97.5 MW, attracting an investment of ₹881.28 crore. These projects were proposed by public sector undertakings (PSUs), HPCL Renewable & Green Energy Ltd. and ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd.
April 2025: Seven renewable energy projects were approved with a cumulative capacity of 149.97 MW and an investment of ₹1,191.47 crore. This included two wind projects, four solar projects, and the state’s first battery storage project.
July 2025: Four new projects, including a 69.5 MW solar park and other solar and wind projects, were cleared. These projects have a total capacity of 178 MW and an estimated investment of ₹869.8 crore.
This remarkable progress is a testament to Odisha’s proactive policies and streamlined single-window clearance mechanism, designed to facilitate ease of doing business for green investors.
The approved portfolio is diverse, with projects spanning solar and wind energy. Major clearances include large-scale solar parks and wind power projects, which are set to significantly boost the state’s renewable energy capacity. This influx of investment and capacity addition is crucial for Odisha to meet its ambitious Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) and contribute to India’s broader climate change commitments.
Speaking on the development, senior officials highlighted that these projects are not just about adding power generation capacity but are also expected to have a significant positive impact on the state’s socio-economic landscape. The new installations are poised to create local employment opportunities and drive infrastructure development in the districts where they are located.
The state’s success in attracting these investments is attributed to its progressive Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022, which provides a supportive framework for renewable energy development. The swift and efficient clearance process through the SWC, chaired by the Principal Secretary, Energy, has been instrumental in accelerating the implementation of these projects.
With a clear roadmap and a strong pipeline of projects, Odisha is well on its way to achieving its target of 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, marking a new chapter in the state’s energy transition journey. The swift clearance process led by Shri Dev is a major factor in positioning Odisha as a frontrunner in India’s green energy transition.
