Driven by profound concern for the vulnerable labourers and their anxious kin back home, Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg capitalized on her extensive, decades-long background in the state labor and employment sector to orchestrate an immediate, empathetic rescue operation.
Prompted by direct orders from Chief Secretary Shrimati Anu Garg, an official state delegation was mobilized immediately to manage the unfolding crisis on the ground.
Principal Secretary of Labour and ESI, Shri D. Venkant Swamy, dispatched a high-level team led by Special Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawala to Tamil Nadu to oversee medical care, formal protocols, and worker welfare. One deceased worker has been transferred to Chennai, where the post-mortem examination is scheduled for today.
To maintain constant institutional coordination, Odisha Team member Shri M.M. Paik will remain stationed in Chennai, working directly with the Joint Commissioner of Labour and senior administrative officials at the Government Medical College Hospital to ensure all legal and medical formalities are completed smoothly.
Meanwhile, Shri Rajesh Agrawala and Shri B.B. Acharya are proceeding to Tiruvallur to monitor the situation at the primary site of the accident. Another deceased worker rests in Tiruvallur, while multiple injured labourers remain under intensive medical care, with several reported to be in critical condition.
On the ground, the administration has successfully moved approximately 130 affected workers to a nearby community hall, where secure accommodation, food, and emergency supplies have been fully arranged. Continuous communication is being maintained with senior Tamil Nadu Labour Department officials and local district administrations in both Chennai and Tiruvallur to streamline ongoing relief efforts.
