Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department center in Bhubaneswar has issued a comprehensive seven-day outlook for the entire state of Odisha, highlighting an aggressive intensification of the monsoon current that will also dictate a wet week ahead for the twin cities. Over the next forty-eight hours, the state will experience a dual weather pattern.
While coastal and interior districts face high humidity and soaring daytime temperatures, localized thunderous showers will break out across various zones. Orange alerts have been active for northern, eastern, and southern districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri, where severe lightning strikes and gusty surface winds reaching forty to fifty kilometers per hour are expected.
From day three through day six, the weather system escalates sharply as widespread monsoon precipitation covers most parts of Odisha. The meteorological center warns of heavy to very heavy downpours across multiple districts during this mid-week block, driven by active monsoon conditions. This transition brings a significant risk of urban waterlogging, localized street flooding, and temporary disruptions to daily transport, particularly in low-lying coastal plains. By the final day of the forecast period, the intense precipitation is expected to ease slightly back into steady, heavy rainfall over isolated pockets, offering a cooling trend across the entire region but requiring continued caution from farmers and rural communities.
For Cuttack specifically, residents should prepare for generally cloudy skies with a regular possibility of rain or thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures will start on the warmer side, reaching a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius on the first two days, before dropping slightly to 36 degrees on day three, and settling at 35 degrees Celsius from day four through day seven. Nighttime temperatures will hover between 27 and 26 degrees Celsius. A brief break in the heavy cloud cover is anticipated on day four with a partly cloudy sky, though the chance of precipitation remains unchanged.
In Bhubaneswar, a nearly identical pattern is on the horizon. The capital city will see generally cloudy skies accompanied by a daily possibility of rain or thunderstorms throughout the entire seven-day period. Maximum temperatures are forecast to hit 37 degrees Celsius on day one, ease to 36 degrees on days two and three, and drop to 35 degrees on days four and five, before ending the week at a slightly cooler 34 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will start at 28 degrees Celsius and gradually drop to a consistent 26 degrees Celsius for the latter half of the week.
