New Delhi: Odisha has also made notable progress in bringing its unorganised workforce into the formal social security network, contributing significantly to the nationwide tally alongside other major states through Common Service Centres and state-level outreach initiatives.
According to updates shared on the e-Shram Portal, this local drive forms a vital part of a broader nationwide movement led by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to ensure informal workers receive basic social protections and direct welfare support.
Across the country, registration figures on the portal have crossed 31.89 crore unorganised workers. Data highlights that Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra have recorded the highest registrations, leading the national standings, while states like Odisha continue to expand their digital coverage.
The nationwide distribution reveals that female workers comprise 54.28 percent of total enrollments, while male workers account for 45.72 percent. In terms of age groups, over 55 percent of registered workers fall within the 18 to 40 years category. Agriculture, domestic and household work, construction, and apparel sectors remain the top occupational categories driving registrations.
Through the e-Shram initiative, workers are issued a unique Universal Account Number that facilitates direct access to key government social security schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, streamlining benefit delivery across state borders.
