Bhubaneswar: Odisha will have an exclusive Handloom and Handicrafts Hub. In fact Odisha is globally renowned for its exquisite handicrafts and handlooms, attracting significant interest from both domestic and international tourists.
To further elevate this reputation and fulfill the state government’s goal of establishing a dedicated Handicrafts and Handloom Hub, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Works.
The meeting took place in the conference hall of the Department of Works in Lok Seva Bhawan and focused on the comprehensive development of the hub. Discussions centered on architectural design, interior decoration, parking facilities, and food courts. Special emphasis was placed on incorporating traditional motifs and ancient artistry into the building’s aesthetics to make it a major attraction.
Additionally, the proposal to house key outlets such as Boyanika, Utkalika, and Sambalpuri Bastralaya along with government offices within the complex was reviewed.
Several senior officials participated in the deliberation, including Shrimati Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Secretary of the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, and Shrimati Nivedita Prusty, Director of Handicrafts and MD of Boyanika. Other attendees included Deputy Director Shri Managobinda Jena, Engineer-in-Chief and Special Secretary of the Works Department Shri Laxmikant Padhi, Chief Engineer (Buildings) Shri Priyabrata Samantaray, Chief Construction Engineer Shri Manoj Mahananda, and Superintending Engineer Shri Sachin Sahu.
The project aims to create a centralized landmark that promotes Odisha’s cultural heritage while providing a modern platform for weavers and artisans to showcase their work to the world.
