Bhubaneswar: In a definitive move toward green industrialization and systemic energy security the Odisha State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a foundational integrated solar manufacturing project by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
Situated within the Tata Special Economic Zone the facility represents a strategic intervention in the upstream solar value chain addressing critical gaps in domestic production capacity.
The project involves a total investment of approximately 10,000 crore and is structured to deliver an overall capacity of 10 GW for ingot-wafer production and 5 GW for solar cell manufacturing.
By internalizing the production of these essential components the facility seeks to reduce historical dependence on imports and directly contribute to India’s national objective of achieving 100 GW in domestic solar module manufacturing capacity by 2030.
The socio-economic implications of this approval are significant as the project is projected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
A substantial portion of these roles will be high-skill positions necessitating a transition toward a more technologically advanced workforce. Furthermore the project is designed to catalyze a broader ecosystem of downstream and ancillary investments.
Beyond the primary manufacturing output the facility is expected to stimulate a diverse range of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises. This includes industries dedicated to specialized glass production chemicals packaging logistics and precision machinery. The resulting industrial density is anticipated to enhance state tax revenues while stabilizing the local supply chain.
This development underscores the institutional stability of Odisha’s industrial framework and its attractiveness to major investors. By aligning with the state’s vision for industrial diversification and high-technology manufacturing the initiative positions Odisha as a primary hub for renewable energy equipment production in India.
