Bhubaneswar: In its first meeting in the new year, the State Cabinet on Saturday approved three tenders worth Rs 1287.86 crore for execution of mega piped drinking water supply projects in Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Jajpur districts.

Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena briefed Media after the Cabinet Meet and said supply of safe drinking water to the people living in the rural areas is one of the priority areas of the State Government.

Accordingly, the Government has taken a decision for execution of four Mega Piped Water Supply Projects to provide safe drinking water in Malkangiri District out of JJM funding.

The State Cabinet has approved the lowest tender of SPML Infra Ltd in JV with KEC International, Mumbai amounting to Rs.639.26 crore for execution of the above work, Shri Jena said.

By execution of the projects, around 3,13,620 people of 453 villages under 61 GPs of 4 Blocks of Malkangiri District will be benefited.

Similarly, the Cabinet has taken a decision for execution of another three Mega Piped Water Supply Projects to provide safe drinking water in Nayagarh District out of JJM funding. Tender worth Rs. 393.93 crore has been approved for the project, which will provide safe drinking water to 1,94,732 people of 619 villages under 42 GPs of three Blocks of the District.

The Cabinet has also approved another tender of Rs. 254.66 crore for execution of two Mega Piped Water Supply Projects in Jajpur District out of JJM funding. By execution of the projects, around 2,50,797 people of 250 villages under 49 GPs of Korei and Bari Blocks of the District will be benefited.

All the drinking water projects work is targeted for completion within a period of 24 months, said the DC, Shri Jena.

The Government of Odisha has also taken another decision for construction of a high-level bridge over river Subarnarekha at Gobarghata on Jaleswar old NH Bye-Pass road to D P Pur Primary School Chhaka in the district of Balasore under State Plan in the year 2022-23 through EPC Contract.

This road will provide all-weather connectivity to overcome the missing link of the River Subarnarekha in Balasore District connecting Jaleswar Municipality under Jaleswar Block to Raibania area under Jaleswar Block & also Rasagobindapur Block under Mayurbhanj District, Jena said.

He said the Project will benefit the inhabitants residing on both sides of the river by providing direct connectivity and opportunity for greater economic activities. It will reduce the distance between various important places.

The Cabinet has approved the lowest tender of Biraja Construction, Super Class Contractor amounting to Rs. 101.66 crore for execution of the bridge project. The work is targeted for completion within a period of three years.
