Move On Last Mile Connect

Rayagada: Odisha witnessed a significant boost to its rural infrastructure and agricultural framework today as Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chavan and Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a comprehensive Rural Road Plan. The visit served as a platform for major financial commitments aimed at accelerating regional development and improving the quality of life for residents.

During the event, a mother sanction of 630 crore rupees was released specifically to complete pending houses under Phase II of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). This move is expected to clear long-standing backlogs and ensure that eligible rural families receive their permanent homes within a fixed timeframe.

In addition to housing, the agricultural sector received a substantial lift with the issuance of a 30 crore rupees mother sanction under the Watershed Development Component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 (WDC–PMKSY 2.0). These funds are earmarked for sustainable land and water management, which is critical for the rain-fed agricultural landscapes of Rayagada.

The unveiling of the Rural Road Plan highlights the government’s focus on last-mile connectivity. By integrating better road networks with housing and irrigation projects, the initiative aims to create a holistic ecosystem for growth. Union Minister Chavan emphasized that these sanctions are not merely financial transactions but are foundational steps toward making rural Odisha self-reliant.

Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi noted that the synchronized focus on housing and watershed management would provide a double benefit to the tribal-dominated regions of the state. Better irrigation leads to higher crop yields, while the completion of PMAY-G houses ensures social security. Together, these investments of 660 crore rupees represent a major stride toward regional prosperity and the overall strengthening of the rural economy in Odisha.
