Martyr Laxman Naik Lauded

Bhubaneswar: Eminent Speakers lauded role of Martyr Laxman Naik for his supreme sacrifice for the Freedom Movement.

Director, Information and Public Relations, Saroj Kumar Samal and Director, Tribal Affairs, Indramani Tripathy graced the occasion.

Shri Samal presided over the state-level death anniversary function of freedom fighter Martyr Laxman Naik organized in association with The Department of Information and Public Relations and Sabari Cultural Council, Bhubaneswar at Jayadev Bhawan here today.

Shri Samal said that a simple tribal man can keep a symbol of patriotism in order to prove his rights or rights.

Born in a well-known village like Tetuliguma in Koraput, Laxman Naik has made the supreme sacrifice in the freedom movement and is eternally grateful to all The Oriyas. “We are proud of Laxman Naik, a unique symbol of tribal self-respect asmita,” he added.

Indramani Tirpathi, Director, Department of Development of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, Welfare of Minorities and Backward Classes was the Chief Guest and said that the great freedom fighter Saheed Laxman Naik was one of those who raised their voice against British Rule in India’s freedom movement and hanged themselves.

The contribution made by Gandhi Laxman Naik of Malkangiri to the India independence movement as well as tribal identity and self-respect is significant for the next generation. Shri Tripathi said that he became one of the heroes of the freedom struggle and made the Quit India Movement a success by organizing the tribals.


Eminent educationist and researcher,  Girish Prasad Swain was the keynote speaker and gave details about the life and ideals of Martyr Laxman Naik.

Shaheed Laxman Naik described India’s freedom struggle as a shining example of the contribution of the tribals of Odisha and said that his patriotism, sacrifice and indomitable courage will continue to guide future generations.

Surendranath Parida, Director (Technical), Department of Information & Public Relations, while delivering the welcome address, said that Laxman Naik’s movement was against the exploitation of the British Government and the Jaipur Zamindari and injustice to the tribal.

 He became a darling of the people due to his selfless and fearless public service. At the outset, the guests paid floral tributes to the portrait of the great freedom fighter Shaheed Laxman Naik.

Godabish Mohapatra of Sabari Cultural Council, Bhubaneswar proposed the vote of thanks. Information Officer Rosalin Sahu coordinated the programme.


The event was attended by  Santosh Kumar Das, Additional Director, Department of Information & Public Relations, senior officers and staff of the Department of Information and Public Relations, students, media representatives and intellectuals.


In the morning, The Director of Information and Public Relations Department, Saroj Kumar Samal, Director (Technical), Surendranath Parida, Additional Director Santosh Kumar Das, Deputy Director Sucheta Priyadarshini and other departmental officials, office bearers of Sabari Cultural Council, Bhubaneswar and many other dignitaries were present at the tribal exhibition ground in Bhubaneswar at 8 am and at 8.30 am, the statue of Shaheed Laxman at Kalinga Hospital Square.
