IREDA Powers India’s Green Energy

New Delhi: Shri Pradip Kumar Das, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), today delivered a compelling address at the 22nd Renewable Energy Summit, organised by the India Energy Forum at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi.

Leading a crucial panel discussion on “Accelerating RE Deployment – Challenges and Solutions,” Shri Das highlighted India’s remarkable strides in the renewable energy sector and outlined a visionary roadmap for its future.

Shri Das, a recognized leader for his instrumental role in driving India’s clean energy transition, moderated a session that featured prominent figures including Shri Sarit Maheshwari, CEO of NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, Shri Vivek Srivastava, CEO of WTG Division, Suzlon Energy, and Shri Ashish Khanna, CEO of Adani Green Energy Ltd.

In his opening remarks, Shri Das underscored India’s impressive achievement of reaching an installed renewable capacity of 234 GW as of June 2025, solidifying its position as the world’s 4th-largest renewable energy market. With an ambitious target of 485 GW by 2030, he emphasized the critical need to nearly triple current annual capacity additions from 20-30 GW to approximately 50-60 GW.

The panel delved into four pivotal challenges hindering accelerated RE deployment:

  • Boosting Domestic Manufacturing: Emphasizing the strategic importance of government initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) to foster a robust domestic supply chain.
  • Streamlining Land Acquisition: Advocating for single-window clearance mechanisms to significantly expedite project implementation.
  • Accelerating Grid Expansion: Stressing the necessity of proactive planning and substantial investment in transmission networks to seamlessly integrate the rapidly growing renewable energy capacity.
  • Mobilizing Investments: Highlighting the colossal financial requirement of ₹30-32 lakh crore by 2030 and calling for innovative financing models to meet these capital demands.

Shri Das reaffirmed IREDA’s unwavering commitment to spearheading this transformative journey through its innovative financing solutions and sector-specific strategies, solidifying its role as India’s leading renewable energy financier.

Under his dynamic leadership, IREDA has been consistently recognized for its financial excellence and strategic contributions to the sector, receiving accolades such as the ‘CMA ICON 2025’ award and the ‘CMD of the Year’ for two consecutive years.

The session concluded with a powerful collective appeal for unified action and strategic collaboration among industry stakeholders, policymakers, and investors.

The consensus was clear: sustained momentum in India’s renewable energy sector and its leadership in the global energy transition hinge on such concerted efforts. Shri Das’s visionary leadership continues to be a driving force in shaping a greener, more sustainable energy future for India.
