Industry Leaders Laud Odisha’s Top Rank

Bhubaneswar: Top Industry leaders from the State have lauded Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi for his sincere efforts to bring in huge investments to Odisha. They met Team Odisha headed by Chief Minister in Lok Seva Bhawan and appreciated the efforts of State Administration.

Minister Health, Dr.Mukesh Mahaling, Industries Minister, Shri Sampad Swain, Chief Secretary Smt.Anu Garg, ACS Home, Industry and I&PR Shri Hemant Sharma and others were present.

According to a recent NITI Aayog report, the state secured fifth place overall and fourth among large states, scoring 52.4 out of 100. This places Odisha in the Top Performer category alongside Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Goa, highlighting significant progress in fiscal discipline, industrial policy, and resource mobilization.

Captains of Industry Dr. Prabodh Mohanty and Dr. Pradipta Mohanty have praised Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi as Odisha solidifies its position as one of India’s premier industrial and investment hubs.

UCCIL President Dr.Prabodh Mohanty and Ex CII Chief Dr.Pradipta Mohanty have appreciated efforts of Odisha Government for its industrial and investment drive.

Odisha excelled particularly under the Resources pillar due to its extensive mining capacity. In FY24, the state contributed nearly 50 percent of India’s metallic mineral output and 23 percent of its total coal production. On the financial front, Odisha ranked third nationally, maintaining the lowest debt-to-GSDP burden among all states with outstanding liabilities at 16 percent of GSDP and interest payments at just 1.38 percent. Investor feedback also pointed to favorable law and order, efficient Registrar of Companies processes, and supportive state policies as major advantages for business operations.

However, the report also outlined key infrastructure and institutional challenges that require attention. Odisha’s warehousing capacity currently sits at 98,000 MT, falling behind the national state average of 4.7 lakh MT. Additionally, Inland Container Depots and Container Freight Stations require capacity expansion. Foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflows stood at USD 9 million in 2024, showing a decline from the state’s previous three-year average. Investors highlighted the need for faster environmental clearances, an enhanced single-window system, simpler exit protocols, and quicker land allotments through IDCO.

Responding to the report, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the ranking reflects the government’s commitment to transparent governance and provides a strong foundation for continued growth. State Minister for Industries Shri Sampad Chandra Swain reaffirmed the government’s plans to expand industrial parks, reduce land costs, and enhance regional connectivity to address existing bottlenecks.
