India’s Green Energy Leap

Panaji: Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), spearheaded India’s green energy narrative at India Energy Week 2026 in Goa, defining solar and wind integration as the bedrock of the nation’s decarbonization strategy.

Delivering a keynote at the session on scaling India’s renewables outlook, Secretary MNRE, Shri Sarangi articulated a vision where the dual potential of these resources creates a stable, high-capacity clean energy grid capable of meeting the country’s surging industrial demands.

The momentum continued through high-stakes diplomatic engagement as Union Secretary Shri Sarangi met with Dr. Michel Heijdra, Vice Minister for Climate Policy and Green Growth from the Netherlands. Their meeting focused on establishing a robust trade corridor for green hydrogen derivatives, aiming to position India as a premier export hub for the European market. A critical takeaway from their dialogue was the urgent call for enhanced international climate finance, which both leaders identified as the primary catalyst needed to bridge the investment gap for emerging green technologies.

The discussions specifically highlighted the development of an India-Netherlands Green Hydrogen Corridor. This initiative aims to utilize the Port of Rotterdam as a strategic gateway for Indian green ammonia and methanol into Europe. By aligning certification standards and harmonizing regulatory frameworks, both nations seek to lower the cost of capital and operationalize green shipping routes. Secretary Sarangi also emphasized the role of Dutch expertise in electrolyzer innovation and system integration to complement India’s massive production scale under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Exploring the cutting edge of the sector, the Secretary MNRE Shri Sarangi toured specialized exhibition zones that highlighted the convergence of digital innovation and sustainability. He inspected developments in green hydrogen production, bio-fuel processing, and the role of AI in optimizing grid efficiency. By engaging with country pavilions and interacting with young researchers, Secretary Sarangi reinforced that India’s transition is not just about infrastructure, but about fostering a globalized ecosystem of talent and technology.
