India-UK Green Hydrogen Pact

New Delhi: MNRE Secretary Santosh Sarangi has expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the India-UK Conference on Green Hydrogen Standards and Safety Protocols held in New Delhi on 27 February 2026.

The high-level convening brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to reinforce cooperation on the safe deployment of green hydrogen under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The event was organized by the National Centre for Hydrogen Safety in collaboration with the British High Commission in India and WRI India. Discussions centered on the critical need for robust regulatory frameworks and safety protocols across the entire value chain, including production, storage, and transportation.

During the keynote address, Scientific Secretary Parvinder Maini emphasized that strong safety frameworks and international standards are essential catalysts for the large-scale adoption of hydrogen technologies. The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation and the Bureau of Indian Standards provided regulatory perspectives, focusing on risk assessment and the alignment of Indian standards with global best practices.

Technical sessions featured experts from organizations such as NTPC Limited and IIT Madras, who explored incident case studies and emerging innovations like AI-enabled monitoring for hydrogen safety. The conference concluded with a renewed commitment between India and the UK to strengthen regulatory capacity and build a comprehensive safety ecosystem to support a competitive green hydrogen sector.
