Bhubaneswar: In order to facilitate sports, cultural and other extra-curricular activities among Government Medical College students, the State Government has approved the Student Welfare Fund under which all Medical Colleges in the State will get financial support from Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs per annum, for student welfare and extracurricular activities.
Shalini Pandit, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday notified the Fund.
The fund will be placed with the Dean & Principal of each Government Medical College, the Director of AHPGIC, Cuttack and Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar, the Superintendent. Sishu Bhawan, Cuttack, the Director-cum-Medical Superintendent, Mental Health Institute, Cuttack and the Principal, SCB Dental College, Cuttack.
The fund can be utilized to support students’ activities like physical training, sports and cultural activities, to meet the cost towards outsourcing of part-time physical instructor/ yoga/ music teacher.
It can also be used to support various intra-college and intra-institute musical, sports and cultural activities/festivals undertaken by the students’ bodies.
Sports/music/other equipment for extra-curricular students’ activities will be purchased from the welfare fund. It will also facilitate minor repair and maintenance of the playground/gym/other equipment used for student activities.
The medical institutions can utilize the fund for celebration of important days bearing national and state importance by the students.
However, the institutions cannot use the fund for hiring of full-time manpower and purchase of vehicles on a long-term basis.
Total Students’ Welfare Fund amounting to Rs.20 lakh per annum will be provided to each Government Medical College which has completed 5 years.
Similarly, total Students’ Welfare Fund amounting to Rs.15 lakh per annum will be provided to each Government Medical College which has not completed 5 years.
Moreover, total Students’ Welfare Fund amounting to Rs. 8 lakh each per annum will be provided to Government PG Institutes, SCB Dental College, Cuttack and Mental Health institute, SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack.
Utilisation of funds is to be monitored every month by the Chairpersons of two panels formed for this purpose.
The Chairperson will review the outcome and take necessary remedial measures at 6 monthly intervals. This outcome of the fund shall be reviewed annually by the DMET, Odisha, and its outcome shall be assessed both in qualitative and quantitative terms.
