Bhubaneswar: With the reporting fresh 40 deaths on Tuesday, the total fatalities due to Covid-19 in Odisha inches close towards 4,000. The total death toll in Odisha now reached 3970.
According to the information shared by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Khordha district continued to report high death cases at 7, followed by Bargarh, Cuttack & Nayagarh, which reported five deaths each.
While four deaths were reported from Puri district, three patients succumbed to the virus infection each in Ganjam and Angul districts and two in Kalahandi.
Similarly, districts including Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Sambalpur registered one fatality each.
According to reports, at least 1216 persons died due to the virus in the month of June (till today) while 711 died in May and 118 in April.
The State has reported 2640 new positive cases on Tuesday, of which, 1,517 were reported from quarantine centres and 1,123 were local contact cases. The State has currently 31,619 active cases.
Balasore district reported the maximum number of 397 positive cases, followed by 365 in Khordha and 266 in Cuttack, Information and Public Relation Department said in a tweet.
Jajpur registered 162 new cases, Mayurbhanj (155), Puri (178), Jagatsinghpur (132) and Bhadrak (128). Three district—Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Nuapada- registered single digit cases while the rest reported double-digit figures.
