Bhubaneswar: To reach out the voters ahead of 2024 General and Assembly polls, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has decided to conduct Padayatra across the State from September 25 to October 15.

This was announced by OPCC President Sarat Pattanatak here on Monday. He said the party will reach out every household and inform them about the failures of BJD Government and Modi Government.

The party will highlight the unwanted chopper ride expenditure made by State Government officer, unemployment, promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which remained unfulfilled till now, Shri Pattanayak said.    

Meanwhile, former Indian Men’s Hockey Team Captain Prabodh Tirkey joined the Congress party here at Congress Bhawan in the presence of A Chella Kumar, MP and in charge of OPCC, Shri Pattnaik, former PCC President Niranjan Pattnaik, and Campaign Committee Chairman Bijay Kumar Pattnaik.

Later, talking to newsmen, Shri Tirkey said he joined the Congress because he liked the ideology of the party and revealed his plan to contest the 2024 Assembly election from Talsara, which was a Congress bastion but is now held by the BJP.

The hockey player who had played 135 international hockey matches, said that although politics and sports are two different fields, he had a large support base in the Talsara Assembly constituency.  Shri Tirkey said he would soon visit the constituency and interact with the people.

When asked, the former Indian Hockey Team Captain said he was greatly influenced by Rahul Gandhi and accepted the offer to join Congress when the party leaders approached him.
