Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the passing of Pranab Kishore Patnaik, the immortal talent of Odisha’s music world and the owner of the golden voice.

The Chief Minister stated that he is deeply saddened to learn about the demise of legendary singer Pranab Patnaik, who mesmerized the entire Odisha with his timeless voice.

Decorated with numerous honors such as the Jaydev Award, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and State Film Awards, the passing of this incomparable musical ascetic has created an irreparable void in the world of Odisha’s art and culture.

The resonance of his sweet voice and timeless music will remain immortal in the hearts of every Odia forever. In this sad time, the Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members and countless fans, and prayed to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath for the salvation of the departed soul.

Pranab Kishore Patnaik (20 January 1938 – 21 August 2026) was a renowned Odia playback singer whose sweet voice reigned over Odisha’s music industry for more than six decades. Known as the Golden Voice of Odisha, he sang over 200 film songs and mastered various genres including Odissi, semi-classical, folk, ghazal, and devotional music.

Beyond cinema, he was an acclaimed radio artist and a household name for non-film tracks, especially known for his renditions of traditional bhajans and Odissi classical numbers. Over his long career, he sang alongside national music icons such as Usha Mangeshkar, S. Janaki, Vani Jairam, and Bhupinder Singh.

Some of his memorable tracks include “Majhire” (from Sesh Shrabana), “Jibana Eka Nataka”, “Indradhanura Saptaranga”, and “Rupasi Chilika”.

He is the only Odia male playback singer to have won the Odisha State Film Award for Best Playback Singer seven times (for films like Sindura Bindu, Astraranga, and Asha).

Honored with the Jaydev Award, established in 2016, which is Odisha’s highest state award for lifetime contribution to cinema.

Received the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1997-98), Prafulla Kar Samman (2011), Balakrushna Das Memorial Award (2023), and the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi’s highest Upendra Bhanja Samman (2023).
